George Santos: A Timeline
A simulation using public records available before his
election
Highlights
-
Santos repeatedly
claimed that his ancestors were Holocaust survivors.
Analysis of a family tree, immigration records, and his
mother’s obituary show that Santos’ European ancestors
emigrated from Europe long before the Holocaust.
-
Between Jan. 2014 and June 2017, Santos claimed to work at
firms including
Met Global
and
Goldman Sachs. During that time, he was evicted three times from modest
rental properties.
-
Within days of announcing
his first Congressional run, Santos finalized his
divorce from Uadla Vieira
and a $1,927 judgment was filed against him by
Discover Bank for unpaid credit card debt.
-
Santos quit
Harbor City Capital in March 2021, one month before the
SEC accused HCC of running a “classic Ponzi scheme.” He then
joined with other HCC employees
to form
Republican campaign strategy firms.
-
Two years after
reporting in financial documents that he had no assets, Santos
loaned his campaign $500,000
and
reported personal assets between $2.6 and $11.25
million.
-
During the 2022 election cycle, Santos
reported 37 expenditures for $199.99 each, one cent shy of the FEC requirements for itemized
reporting.
-
Santos
claimed to own two mansions
and
at least 13 rental properties in New York. He listed no real estate in his financial disclosure, and
a public record search showed he and his family owned no
property in New York.
